Do you press or iron your clothes? Ironing of clothes seems to be an easy task. Even though you haven’t experienced doing it. But the truth is, it is harder than it looks.
Uniforms, whites, pants, baby’s clothes, delicates and even the clothes we use only at home. Yup! There are people who prefer to press all their clothes from their tops, bottoms, handkerchiefs, socks and under wears.
Some people just want it to be pressed because they can afford to pay for it. Some due to medical reasons.
How to press or iron your clothes properly
1. Prepare the following:
A. Flat iron – The most important item in this work.
B. Ironing table – Very important as well. Ironing is easier to perform if you use this.
C. Cloth pad – To be used when ironing thin clothes like silks.
D. Water spray – To be used for removal of wrinkles.
E. Hangers – To be used for hanging your pressed clothes.
2. Segregate clothes by fabric not by color
Different fabric types have different ways of ironing. I will discuss their difference in another article. Please watch out for it.
3. Check the care label or care tag of the cloth
Before you start to iron your clothes, note that the flat iron settings have different level of temperature. You should not max out the setting once you plug it in electricity. You should start it at the lowest setting. Then you should not steady it on the highest temperature all the time to save energy. If the flat iron already reached its max temperature, you can turn it down to a lower setting or shut it down until the heat is gone. Also note that flat irons have different settings: warm, low temperature and high temperature. Adjust the setting based on the fabric type.
4. Start ironing
Now you can iron your clothes. If in case that there are no care label attached, you can start ironing it with the lowest temperature. Adjusting it very slowly and carefully to avoid damaging the fabric. Use the water spray if you find cloth that have wrinkles even after ironing it with high temperature. Spray a bit of water in the wrinkle area and press it right away. Once the wrinkles are gone, you can now hang it.
5. There are some times that you will be required to press clothes with pairs
Like uniforms with tops and bottoms. You can hang the pair of clothes in one hanger. Bottoms first then the tops. This way, you can save space and you can maximize the use of your hangers. One hanger, two clothes.
6. Ready for storing or delivery
Hang the clothes neatly and properly sorted out according to color or type of your clothes. I recommend to keep them in a closed cabinet.
These are the steps of ironing your clothes properly. I also added some tricks to help you in your ironing work.
